I am a practitioner of Chinese medicine, herbs and acupuncture, who specializes in general ailments, but also patients with cancer, autoimmune, diabetes and other difficult conditions. I have been teaching and practicing in Seattle for 11 years. Before that I studied Chinese medicine in Taiwan for 15 years.

It sounds like this physician is perhaps a good physician but not so skilled with business. He might do well to step out of the way and let somebody with more experience set up and run his business, at least in the beginning. Perhaps he wants a no risk employee model where he loses nothing but...

It sounds like this physician is perhaps a good physician but not so skilled with business. He might do well to step out of the way and let somebody with more experience set up and run his business, at least in the beginning. Perhaps he wants a no risk employee model where he loses nothing but employees could lose everything? What about cash patients? Can't he pay a percentage of the income from cash patients and copays up front so that the hired practitioners come home with at least something. I am sure there could be a contract where employees can agree to smaller up front income for first 3 to 6 months and then renegotiate based on patient load and overall clinic income.
I would counsel any of my colleagues to not take a position like this unless they were to have some sort of guaranteed initial salary or a partnership or shares in the business.
