"Greg, I'm Bill with A Tools Errand. My phone number is 214-762-4134. Let's get a coffee sometime, I have a grand plan for you and me as a team we can do great things. I'm a handyman, but I do not specialize in building fences. I have helped build many fences with my parents only. I would love to get to know more about your business and how I can help you out.

"Reaching out" is critical to a service business like Ace Quality Fencing and we do it any way we can. We cold call, we request the opportunity to provide a proposal to any person or company which appears to us to need our services. We call, we visit, we provide our credentials. We arrange meetings whenever necessary to determine exactly what the customer needs to accomplish the successful completion of a given project. We direct customers, both commercial and residential, to see our web site and our Facebook page so they can see examples of our quality service.

It's not unusual in the fence installation business to find that a competitor's turnkey price is lower than my cost of material, let alone overhead, insurance, labor, etc. I don't try to convince the customer not to take the deal - it just accelerates the demise of the competitor. I'm with Phillip Rael, we set pricing to be competitive and equitable and to allow us continue to provide quality service with really good material. We generally don't find out how close we were to the winning bid until after the job is let so it's difficult to try to change the customer's mind. Anytime a customer comes back and lets us know about a lower price, we request to see the competing bid so we can confirm apples to apples pricing for material quality and/or to make sure the customer is not just lying to get a lower price. We move on if we can't see the other bid.
