How We Got Started
I started by delivering flyers to neighbourhood mailboxes; advertising in the community newspaper and networking with other teachers. I also made posters and brought them to various schools in the vicinity to hang up.

I discuss with the parent, and if they prefer to have everyone in masks, that’s what I do.

Keep my fingers crossed. I am teaching in home right now with COVID protocols. Students like when I am there with them. I do teach online if the parents would prefer. Being a piano teacher is quite a precarious vocation, and COVID has changed my studio. It's hard to get new students if...

I would only have the students come in on their own; no other family members.

If I think sitting 6 feet away from a student and I have to keep getting up, I would rather wear a mask. Parents can decide whether their child also wears a mask. The student washes their hands before we start. If a student shows any signs of a cold or runny nose, I will send them back to their parents. I will have disinfectant wipes to clean the keyboard and wipe down door handles.

I am doing online piano lessons on Zoom. I start tomorrow. I must say that it’s a bit difficult to get parents on board. I don’t know why because they don’t have to drive to my Studio; wait until the lesson is over and then drive home. More time for them.

My biggest success as a business owner was when after about a year of putting flyers in mailboxes, hanging posters in schools, etc. I built my studio up to 28 students. I've moved back and now and trying to get my studio up again, and it's been tough. Attitudes about learning a musical instrument have changed and also the children that become my students. The world is ever changing, so we constantly have to have our eyes open to everything.
Wow, those are some numbers. I like the fact that people have a forum to connect with experienced people.
