How We Got Started
After more than a decade of quasi-governmental design work I left to explore options that afforded me a more rewarding and interesting professional pursuit. After a brief stint in Europe to produce some commissioned artwork I partnered with a colleague to help them build their company then branched out on my own. Worked with some interesting clients and spent time working with various notable companies. I once again have the itch and have begun exploring every creative avenue I found interesting. Have embraced writing as a creative pursuit and am in the process of completing a voluminous fiction trilogy. I find I love creating with words as much as I do with paint, ink and materials.

I guess I would say whatever struck me as interesting or worthwhile. Sometimes I feel compelled, but not always. I painted a series of oil paintings I called "The Invisible Series" to bring homeless people into the public consciousness. More recently I wrote and illustrated children's stories to entertain my daughters while teaching them valuable lessons about life. Presently I am writing fiction novels to spur discourse on the perception of right and wrong using logic and faith; sometimes in tandem, sometimes at odds. Whatever it is, it has to mean something to me. That's what drives me to publish anything.

Networking exposes you to potential Clients and helps you to maintain relationships with existing Clients. Advertising exposes you to a broad audience of potential Clients. Reputation takes years to establish but, once established, is invaluable. To maintain a customer base you need to work at all three. Once people believe you offer value they will be happy to solicit your services; over and over again potentially, as long as they feel you offer value.

The trip had never been billed in my mind as an adventure in the sense of something to be proved. And it struck me then that the most difficult thing had been the decision to act, the rest had been merely tenacity -- and the fears were paper tigers. I have been a creative person my entire life. I am a traditional Architect and a Visual-Artist (Painting) but I never experienced the freedom of expression I feel when I write. I began writing years ago to alleviate the frustration I felt when trying to articulate my thoughts or ideas to people who weren't listening, but waiting to talk. I have something to say and a way to say it that I believe will make people think.
I have finished writing and am editing for the second time the first of several books I have in my head (fiction novel, one of a trilogy) but I have no idea how to make it a reality. I've talked to many self-publishing houses and vanity presses but am completely lost when it comes to what to do when I've finished editing the first and begun writing the second and third book in earnest. To answer your question; I have found the time & place to write and have decades of subject matter to write about but I need guidance through the publishing process. I'm sure it will get easier but at the moment, writing isn't the issue, publishing is.
