It is tough situation all around as it has a lose/lose stamp attached. I like a lot of the replies, they seem spot on. Use them as a buffet, take what you like, try something new, and go back for lots of dessert....well maybe only two trips. You know you, and you know your parents. Maybe put yourself is their position, as a parent I feel I am harder on my kids, because the world can be ugly, hard and mean. I won't always be here to protect them. Perhaps your parents believe in toughening you up, but forget to build you up too. I hope this helps, good luck.

The replies are all great advice, but like you, I will always see my kids as the little ones whom needed me for everything. But, like in life, you have to let them fall down to learn. I believe delegating responsibility is what you were trying to do in the first place. I think someone mentioned a power point, brief pros and cons as to why a decision was made. If your daughter is destined to run the company, Dad, you have to let go of the seat and let her ride. The good thing is you both will have each other's back and your skills and hers should make an unbeatable team. Good luck

Reading some of the comments, my two cents, is get a dog. Get a small portable dog, and the dog will bring folks to you like bees to honey. What fur parent can't help but to beam at any recognition the fur baby will garnish. Then, folks will want to talk, making it easier to talk back. Do a webpage, and heck, even video chat with the fur baby. Only a suggestion, not a professional answer. Good luck.

As a giver...I too have been taken. For a 5-10% charge of the rent..perhaps hire a property manager to buffer yourself. If flakey tenants don't pay...they handle the evictions and legal issues. Also they can vet potentials as well. You have a big heart...but the world takes it as a weakness.... (more) As a giver...I too have been taken. Secondly, look at your experience, wisdom, knowledge as a plus. Folks like us, we know how to look a person in the eye, give a firm handshake, not look at our phone because it has been 45 seconds since the last time, :), and we know hardships. Technology is great, until it takes jobs away. Virtual offices are great, until it takes jobs away. I find it is so much better to go to the office on days that I have no clients, than to work from home. Too many distractions, and excuses to not even get out of my pajamas.  But, before I digress too much.  I see a lot of folks are entrepreneurs,  perhaps that is a way to go. Uber, Lyft are ways to bolster your income as you seek out what you want to do. I wish there were a way to start a paid, mentorship, for new professionals. You can have the flashy tech, but with no people skills you will fail. Seasoned veterans like yourself, can help beginners avoid some of the pitfalls we all fell into. Help folks remember when our word was our bond, etc.  Keep your chin up, lead with the left jab, and keep hitting the pavement. Good things will come.

All the replies are spot on. My two cents is, be proud of who you are. I am of a live and let live mentality. If your personal lifestyle is not affecting your professional life, then who cares. If so, perhaps a private discussion is in order, as this person is likely going to get fired for this. It is a double edged sword, having relationships in the place of business, whether  friendships, or intimate relationships. People seem to always revert back to the playground, gossiping and bullying. I hope you persevere  through this adversity. The silver lining is, perhaps your situation has given someone else the strength to go through their situation. I wish you the best.
