I've had coffee occasionally with someone who was COO of a startup I briefly did some work for years ago - mainly just because I liked his vibe. I just brought him on to my two-year old digital marketing firm and he's making a great impact. (more) Your business is very different from many others. Your customer will likely buy a mattress from you once every 7-10 years. Your marketing should be geared for success given that cadence.  Your very first order of business is to develop a killer Value Proposition. Here's an awesome lecture on this by Austin McCraw. This will distinguish you from your competition based on your unique value to your customer base. Second, if I were doing it, I'd develop a tiered, evergreen marketing system that is primarily content-based. You need to educate your potential audience about your product and your industry.  You can do this for relatively little money by authoring articles (blog posts) as little as once a month and then publicizing them using an inexpensive hyper-local ad strategy such as carpet-bombing. This can be structured as a multi-tier, evergreen campaign that will increasingly engage people who are showing interest in your material with more content.  Hope that helps!
