About Us
My business, now in its 30th year, offers fine quality antique and vintage jewelry from the 18th century to 1970. Condition and customer service are primary attributes. Love of design and history is prevalent in all selections. Visit Glorious Antique Jewelry and find Gloria directly to learn about your interests. I am a jewelry historian and enjoy passing on information.
How We Got Started
I was working with a fine American Folk Art Gallery. When the gallery owner was asked to run a department in a famous art gallery, I began researching antique jewelry and attending conferences. The more I saw and touched and studied, the more I learned. I became a jewelry historian and continued to study throughout the years by attending conferences and meetings.

"Betty Sue has worked tirelessly and consistently since I met her at jewelry conference at least 30 years ago. She faced her work with curiosity and the desire to educate. Betty Sue creates magnificent designs with pearls and know as much as a person can know about all kinds of pearls from around the world. Truly an expert. "

Good Saturday all. My hope is that when conditions allow some business openings your business will have clients rush in. I am a lone owner and operator of Glorious Antique Jewelry and have been for 36 years other than hiring sales help and porters when I participate in exhibitions. As a sole employer with no steady helpers, I did not apply for a loan. I will be able to make it through the year and the next. I decide day by day, month by month. I had purchased fresh inventory before the virus was known in the U.S. As an internet business, fresh listings are essential. I have had a few sales and am grateful. Most, however, show interest, ask questions, want to buy and lo disappear without doing so. I follow up with those who had interest. They sometimes reply but often not. I don't know about relying on wishful thinking. I do hope although I feel this will take a few years to get to the new normal, a time when clients will either celebrate and make purchases or hold tight to their funds once hit this hard.
Thank you for the work you are doing to keep us up to date. Gloria

The antique jewelry that I purchase for sale has been fine in quality and condition for 35 years. My eye is consistent and that is what caused 1stdibs to take me on when their jewelry business began. Then getting on line to exhibit with them was a prize. The business has changed and become far more costly as a large corporation purchased Dibs. I will remain consistent in this niche market for early 19th and 2oth Century jewels. Success depends on how comfortable the public is with their economy and how safe they feel to purchase luxury items. I will continue to exhibit in New York . There are less shows now and jewelry lovers and dealers from abroad look forward to them . I find that having a selection of rare pieces for collectors in addition to antiques that cross over to being fashionable to a broader audience is a wise policy. I have to serve clients with honesty and knowledge . I offer a return policy that gives clients security and return their money immediately Thank my stars that this is not often necessary. A prosperous, peaceful 2020 to all.
That would depend on how long the item would be out of my hands, who pays postage and who provides insurance. If the item is damaged or lost it would not be replaceable as my jewelry is antique and often rare. 10% cannot cover those contingencies.

I have been in business for 34 years, a long time to keep a jewelry business successful.
The owner is the best technology. Listen to your client, think of alternative selections, be calm if challenged, and give great customer service, and I mean go out of your way.

I post on instagram, and have three websites active. Photographs of inventory are on all.
I use a macbook air and always have used mac. I am available at my office or cell. The more active one is, the better chance of google picking one up. One of the sites, although expensive and greedy is 1stdibs. They do advertise extremely well and have an international and national clientele. Gloria

The inventory is capital intensive and debts are disaster, for how to buy the next piece of jewelry without being paid for the sold pieces. I do offer lay-a-way for three, four or though I do not prefer it 6 months. Money coming in even in bits, is money in the bank!

My greatest source of referrals are extremely happy clients who love the jewelry they buy. The pieces are unique, in excellent condition and bring history along with them. A client just purchased four pieces to give as gifts to long time assistants, and she wrote that there is a problem which is she wants to keep them all herself. Then, remember I have been in business 33 years so a consistent reputation has built. I do two trade shows in New York and send photos of current pieces and announcements to clients who made purchases in the last three years. I have two website stores, 1stdibs and Ruby Lane both under the name of Glorious Antique Jewelry. 1stdibs has a wide range though they are very costly. Ruby Lane is beginning to come through for me. Web selling takes time to establish. I make posts each week. If selling on the internet, new listings and keeping on top of the sites is crucial.

I am a soft seller and welcome a customer warmly. I ask if they have a special interest or if they would like to look around telling them I am here to answer their questions if needed. It is not difficult to determine if a person wants conversation or privacy. I find common ground and have a conversation that is friendly and inspires trust. I listen intently giving full attention as I am genuinely interested in learning about the person. When listening a seller can often find what recommendations to make and what the taste is of that client. Patience and knowledge about what I offer is vital. Sale or no sale, a relationship has started and if no sale is made at that moment, the client becomes comfortable, friendly and has the trust to return.

In my business as an antique jewelry dealer for 30 years and jewelry historian and lecturer, I know no two pieces are exactly alike. Fact is that what I offer is usually unique, original and in wonderful condition. I am known for having the most amazing jewelry pass through my hands. Museums have many items from my collection. Workmanship, trust, honesty and knowledge make a price, not I alone.
I have been asked this and once a client examines alternatives, they come back to me. Quality comes and a cost to me. Thank you for your question.
