Depending on your level of computer literacy you can build a website yourself or hire someone who specializes in building websites like myself :) I consider branding and website building to be an art form so I take great pride building beautiful cohesive websites. The plus side of working with a professional means you get to spend more time running your business and the professional website designer does what they are good at. Also, the professional designer will probably get your website up quicker and knows what needs to be on it, how to optimize the text and photos for SEO, installs security plug ins, etc. so you have a beautiful, functional and secure website. I have a simple economy website that starts at $350.00 if you are interested :) Good luck!
I think having a modern, clean website that is easy to navigate could NEVER be a waste of money (even if you don't sell online). The way I look at it, your website is your calling card. If a customer is searching for your service 10pm on a Friday night in their PJ's and you have NO website then...

If a customer is searching for your service 10pm on a Friday night in their PJ's and you have NO website then you are not getting their business and your competition WITH the website is.
A website provides your customers with a chance to "meet" you before they meet you. This is where having a good looking, cohesive website full of the pertinent information is important. Many of my clients have been "Facelift" clients who had a website but it was not aesthetically pleasing and did not answer the questions (or sell the products or service in it's story line) so they came to rebuild them a beautiful website, chock full of the information and sales pitch they needed to land their customers.
I believe in giving back to my local community so I am grateful when the opportunity arises for me to use my talents to donate to a charity or good cause. I also believe in offering levels of service (economy, standard and premium) so that my skills and talents can be affordable for the people...

I use Adobe Illustrator for single page documents, business cards, postcards, brochures and I use Adobe InDesign for multi page documents such as catalogs, magazines etc. I have an older version of the entire Adobe Creative Suite installed on my computer so no monthly fees but I don't have all...

I'm sure you could find an older version to purchase and install on your computer if monthly fees are not desirable.
