(more) Michael Grippi from Yoga Bear Computer Repair gave the answer I was planning to give: that anyone who does serious work should be doing it on a desktop computer. Advantages of desktop computers vs. laptops include: Faster processor (typically 3 GHz vs. 2.4 GHz) Faster hard drives, unless you're using SSD, in which case they're both fast. (Hard drives are what hold computers back these days.) More monitors. Most laptops allow hooking up one monitor, presumably giving people one small (maybe 15 inch) monitor and one desktop-size monitor. Most desktop computers can have 2 large monitors, or more if you have the right graphics cards. Multiple monitors really help with software development, graphic design, network management, etc. Posture. Desktop computer monitors can be positioned at the correct height. You can connect your choice of keyboards, mice, etc. so that you can work most of the day without ruining your back, wrist, eyes, etc. Sure, you could put a laptop on a desk, but then the laptop's screen in typically down low, near the keyboard. You can hook up other peripherals to the laptop, like a better keyboard and mouse, but then it's not really a portable computer any more. So, people who do serious computer work are better off with a properly equipped desktop computer. That said, most people don't do serious computer work, they do Facebook, watch videos, etc. They'll go for laptops, tablets, phones, etc., which they can use anywhere, including their easy chair. - Jesse
