About Us

We conduct Instructor led speed reading courses which increase comprehension, concentration, recall and retention with strategies for every kind of reading as well as writing. Programs include Learning Skills for students and Technical Reading an Writing for engineers and other professionals. Courses and seminars range from one hour to 15 hours in length. We have a summer school program for middle and high school students in Columbus, public classes in Columbus all year long and seminars and classes for organizations nationwide and internationally as we did recently in Bangkok, Thailand. More information on our website at www.advancedreading.com.

For years we have published class schedules for specific dates and times. Recently, our customers have told us that these schedules rarely match their availability. We have now begun an "on demand" scheduling process. Our schedule is simply -"classes available on YOUR schedule - anytime and anywhere". Contact us with YOUR schedule in mind. We can make it work.

How We Got Started

In 1978, some former associates from two separate nationwide franchise "speed reading" schools got together and with venture capital funding developed the Advanced Reading Concepts, Inc courseware and brand in Columbus, OH. Initially, the company focused on high school students and their parents in the Columbus, OH metro area. Within a few years, the company expanded into nationwide training classes for corporations and government agencies especially the military. In 2017 the company expanded further into government classes internationally.

"do unto others" - would you like to be the one that exposed Grandpa to COVID and he died?  Be sensible everyone. We conduct Speedreading classes for students, corporate and non-profit organizations and the US Military.  The main way that people find us is word of mouth from former clients.  We try to prime the pump with networking events, some social media and email marketing.  All of those help but I still think WOM is the key.  Being a niche  business has benefit of little direct competition but the obvious con is the reality of a small market.

We expected a flat year but a spike in our government business gave us over 10 percent increase in revenue.  B2B business down, B2C business up a little.   (more) We expected a flat year but a spike in our government business gave us over 10 percent increase in revenue.  B2B business down, B2C business up a little.

Try an out of body - mind experience.  Assume an alter-ego persona even for a few minutes to get used to it.  Or, try a glass of wine before encounters with potential customers.  Seriously, be yourself.  Many potential customers would rather do business with you than a slap-on-the-back clown.
