If I recall, I wrote a letter and an email to friends, family, colleagues and those of influence in my circle, to announce the opening of my business, inviting them to meet/ go to a website, phone call etc and engage in a critique of my new venture. This allowed my future prospects to participate without feeling pressured to engage. If they chose to engage that was on their part and of course I was happy to help meet their needs. If they chose not to engage and give a critique, it helped me identify what I needed to do to engage them and folks like them in the future.
