Go on at state's website and daily look at the corporation filings as most businesses do this before launching their site. Also, partner up with plenty of CPAs.

Stuart,

Stuart,
There is a very simple answer to your question and it is not different than the marketing around your local food court of any auto dealership; give them a free sample or a test drive. Don't be timid either to pull out the big guns immediately either because it helps establish rapport, builds your value proposition, and develops trust. Once you've built a value they cannot live without, then they are more than happy to pay almost anything for your services.
As a business owner you need to ask the insurance agent/carrier 3 very important questions:
1) How do I protect myself from my clients and the general public?
2) How do I protect myself from my own employees?
3) Which carrier is going to pay, pay the fastest, and minimize my involvement in the...

The answer really depends on how much control you want. If you want absolute control you hire all in house. If you want to outsource then take a look at the peers in your industry you would like to mimic and reach out to them and pick their brains on which vendors they use. Then reach out to the...

The answer really depends on how much control you want. If you want absolute control you hire all in house. If you want to outsource then take a look at the peers in your industry you would like to mimic and reach out to them and pick their brains on which vendors they use. Then reach out to the vendor(s) and ask for real time references and testimonials, not just what's listed on their site as a marketing tool. I'd be very wary of marketing and/or advertising agencies as they have a bad habit of overpromising and under delivering with an inflated fee attached. Invest your time into research.
Look at this as an opportunity to add website design services to your portfolio of products and services. Collect real data and package a presentation and pitch. Subcontract a webdesigner to implement. I did this when I ran operations for a CPA firm and we added an additional revenue stream...

Judy,

I was almost a duel fine arts major myself and both my mother and grandmother were artists of noteworthy talent.
First you need to determine if your art is marketable to the commercial space and this is as easy as taking note and being honest with yourself.
Secondly, you need to focus on a specific market whether it be attorneys, doctors, food and beverage, etc.
Next you need to find a common thread in their market such as trade associations or charitable organizations. Then offer to display your are at something like a cancer benefit for a local doctor group and maybe even wrote off a small donation.
Remember the decision makers in the design space is usually not the owner or professional themselves, but are usually influenced by thier spouse or other family members; those are the persons you need to target.
Hope this helps
