For my high school seniors I use facebook and instagram. Tried snapchat but still working on figuring that one out.Although high schoolers are really not on facebook but moms are. I use LinkedIn to mainly reach my business portrait market. The struggle I have is the time and effort it takes to keep social post current, interesting and interactive. Could definitely be a full time job!

Read through all the responses and couldn't agree more. The analogy I always use is - I have a wrench that does not make me a plumber! I also think education is important. Educating your client about what you do and your product does help them value what we do and what we are trying to sell.

I have read most of the responses and would have to agree. My portraits I have in my home are cherished but those candid’s; birthday parties, quick moments of the grandkids are good to have on my phone or post to my social media. That’s convenient. I realize your question was what we preferred...

I have read most of the responses and would have to agree. My portraits I have in my home are cherished but those candid’s; birthday parties, quick moments of the grandkids are good to have on my phone or post to my social media. That’s convenient. I realize your question was what we preferred however being a professional portrait photographer I think the bigger question is do we value our talent and hard work. I hope you are selling the digital file for the same value amount as you would for a print. The end product is different but what it took to get there is the same - your talent, your hard work and your time. Again apologize for going off in a little bit of a different direction with my answer.

50% of their order down at time of ordering and balance upon completion. If they do not pick up the order within the 10 day period we start a $15 per month "stocking fee". This does not happen very often as most of the clients want their finished product.

Hi Mike - I use Facebook, Instagram, and occasionally Snapchat especially for my high school seniors and families. LinkedIn for business portraits.
Hope this helps - Jamie

Skip the walk into their business as your first step. Find out about their business and what they are all about. Go on LinkedIn and see if you can connect or like their other social pages. Do your homework first before and get to know them. Next send them a card with some of your best work - your dog whitsle as Sarah Petty calls it. Find out how you can work "together" instead of just offering them your services. Can you do an event together or fundraiser? To many times us photographers are looking at the smaller picture. Dazzle them with your skills and creativeness. Once they know you they are going to be more likely to recommend you to others and want to work with you....just my two cents.
We do have offers but not off of our products usually the offer will be from the session. Idea behind that is get them into the door and because you offer a great experience/service and awesome photography selling your photography and products at your normal prices should not be an issue. Idea behind that is get them into the door and because you offer a great experience/service and awesome photography selling your photography and products at your normal prices should not be an issue. We work hard and this is not a hobby. We are selling art, memories and an experience price yourself to what you are worth. Good Luck!
