About Us

Cox Construction is a full service remodeling and building company. Our work is in Sayville, West Sayville and Bayport exclusively. John Cox is a LEED A.P. since 2007 which is an accreditation that is very difficult to obtain, so difficult in fact no other General Contractor of my size has it. It stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional. Simply put, a green builder with actual knowledge of green building. My company has mold and air quality testing ability and accredited for mold testing. My top employees must take continuing education courses and maintain current material and methods skills. My crews go to work and work, this is a job not a social event and we run the company that way. I have never worked out of my home or backyard. I have always had an office, warehouse and yard for equipment, we started with a yard in Amityville in 1973, moved to the Sayville Industrial Park in 1978, then to a nice location in West Sayville down by the water. We now have the best location right on the Great South Bay in West Sayville inside the West Sayville Boat Basin which we had a huge hand in the acquisition and remodeling the Bluepoints Company to a gorgeous private marina and 30 professional office suites. Of course we have the best office here. we have competitive pricing because if we didn't how would we have lasted over 47 years?

How We Got Started

I started working as a carpenters helper in 1968 while in High School. After a few years in the Army, I started my own business in September of 1973 and made it this far with the same company and phone number. we have hundreds of jobs in the local area and am very well known in the community.

I have lived through three major economic catastrophes. 1977, they told us there was not a drop of oil left in the ground, we used it all up. Once gas prices went over a dollar, boom, oil was everywhere. 1991, a complete economic turn down due mostly to the rising energy costs because they found oil but it was in the middle East. Kuwait gets invaded, we run out of oil, again. Also in 1991 the criminal banking institutions decided to cut back on credit and raised interest rates to counter inflation which was actually just the oil greed. 2007, oh boy, England wanted to get paid back for covering the insurance costs of Katrina, so a banking and insurance crisis. The crisis was so bad that Chase bank bought up all the small banks and put one of their branches on every corner. Now this new Covid one is a beauty. The government put a moratorium on evictions so why pay rent? This hurts the landlords who will eventually lose their properties to the banks or a corporate limited partnership and there goes the neighborhood.
