(more) Good technique is to get all the locally printed magazines, food, business, nightlife, homes and look at the ads and articles. Figure out which advertisers are using photography that is in your area of expertise and that you do better. You will have a first list of potential targets to call on with your promo materials and book. Next figure out which area of ads are consuming a good amount of photography. Develop your photo skills and materials in that or those areas and expand your targets list. You should also work on your editorial skills and try to get these magizines to use you as a feature shooter. The money is usually terrible but the exposure is incredible. Think of it as an advertising campaign that you get paid to do. Lastly is join as many business groups as you can keep up with. Never go to these meetings without business cards. Also doesn't hurt to have some promo cards of your incredible head shots and executive portraits ready to hand over. Takes work but I think that's what you're looking for!
