There are many things we, as accountants, should be doing to help protect our clients from identity theft. Here a few of the, in my never-to-be-humble-opinion, important ones -
1.NEVER leave a client (or any other "outsider") alone in an office with a logged-in computer. It can only take SECONDS to copy data to a thumb drive! ALWAYS shut down your computer if you will be away from it for more than a few minutes. Hackers are WAY faster than you think! Use a secure shredding service to destroy ANY document with a client's name, much less SSN, on it--even pre-printed envelopes and forms. Create strong passwords and do not share them or write them down.
Bob Jennings, Jennings Advisor Group LLC, offers several data security instruction courses--along with many other training and certification courses--which we highly recommend. You can reach them at (877) 466-1040, or info@taxspeaker.com for more information.

If you have not already done so, you should consider becoming QuickBooks ProAdvisors. This gets your firm some significant exposure on Intuit's website, when someone is searching for QuickBooks-specific training.
Also, participation in the IRS's Annual Filing Season Program will add your firm to their directory of approved tax preparers (same directory as CPAs, EAs, etc.). This is another often-searched--and very worthwhile--directory. Here is the link: https://www.irs.gov/tax-profes... .

I would never use a GoFundMe page to raise capital or generate new business. This service is intended for people in dire straits, needing financial help!
CAUTIONARY NOTE: Please remember that, in all likelihood, any GoFundMe donation made directly to an "end-user" (direct beneficiary) will NOT be tax deductible. To be deductible, a donation must be made to an IRS-registered 501(c)(3) or other charitable/nonprofit organization...with NO "strings" attached as to how/to whom the funds are disbursed.
