As a provider of legal services, my thoughts on how lawyers can improve their service to clients involves greater effort at the intake stage. Instead of engaging in the hurried dash to sign up a client, listen carefully to what the client needs and ask questions that reflect your active listening. Think of yourself as your client's partner as opposed to the detached service provider. If the client is engaged in a business, with the active listening, you will hopefully have the perspective to assess the client's needs against the backdrop of what they want to achieve in their business, as opposed to merely giving them the legal solution which may not serve the client's business interest.
