When a relationship becomes acrimonious, I usually sit down with the client and tell them exactly what my concerns are and why I think our relationship is not working and then invite them to tell me "their side". Sometimes we can salvage the relationship because their concerns are just a part of miscommunication or lack of information. I know my business and know what needs to be done but my clients don't always understand what I am doing. So, first I see if we can fix it and if that is not possible, I either try to do a referral or at least try to part on a more positive note.
