(more) We have this issue all the time as well. Good customer service and good quality is well worth a little extra. It takes time to build relationships sometimes though, so it can be more difficult to win over someone wanting to be in/ out and don't know the quality of what they see, just wanting a 'bargain'. In furniture, big box stores generally mark up their prices enough through the year they can do seemingly larger sales. We try to give everyday deals, but still get asked to lower. We offer quality furniture and decor and don't buy in bulk, so prices will be a little higher. We have various price ranges, but we do keep good quality so we simply can't compete on certain levels (but we will help look elsewhere if we can't make it work for their budget in-store). We start off giving our best price and in some cases we have a little room to lower, but clients perceive this as not much of a discount, when it really is. What has helped our clients to see the value and price comparison is what the retail is and what we are then able to offer. We can come close to what online prices are, but there is no comparison to the customer service. If something is ordered and comes in damaged, we take care of any issues and get replacements so clients don't have to go through the hassle of waiting or worrying. There is a lot of time invested in our clients and their homes to ensure they have the best experience and outcome. End of the day, you will have clients that understand and want your quality and service. The new generation and ways of shopping make it more 'convenient' and fulfill the need for instant gratification and not having to leave home, this is likely a struggle for most small business. Hoping for all the best for you and your business, good luck!
