When I first set up this company, I had a partner. The arrangement was my partner would deal with the day-to-day operations and I would oversee and act as more of an advisory capacity/investor. We didn't see eye-to-eye on how to deal with certain customers if the event didn't go 100% to plan. ...

When I first set up this company, I had a partner. The arrangement was my partner would deal with the day-to-day operations and I would oversee and act as more of an advisory capacity/investor. We didn't see eye-to-eye on how to deal with certain customers if the event didn't go 100% to plan. Being that my partner dealt with day-to-day operations, I never knew that this one customer was not satisfied with the way she was treated when we had a generator malfunction during the party. After my partner and I separated, I made it a point to personally call all my customers and let them know that I was now in charge. When I spoke to this unhappy customers, she told me that she didn't want to ever deal with my company again because of how she was treated by my partner. I told her things were different now and that I would do whatever it took, within reason, to get her business back and just to give us another chance. Without her permission, I don't want to go in to specifics, but we worked out timing to host a great event for her and the community and she has been so thankful that since then she has not only booked my company on multiple occasions, but has been an amazing source of referral business. She has also become a dear friend who I speak to on multiple occasions for advice. The personal success of this story is that in following my own advice to always follow up with customers after our events, that I was able to find out about a problem I would've not known about and was able to do right by the customer and keep her business and the bonus was to make a new friend.
