Hi! I am a singer/songwriter, storyteller with long connections to the John F. Kennedy Center as an artist educator. I perform, lecture and lead workshops on music, historical curriculum connections, African American history and race relations with over 45 years of experience. I am a recording artist with many CDs to my credit including ones with my former wife and partner Kim Harris. I'm also Co-President and Music Education Director for the UU Living Legacy Project, an organization that leads civil rights pilgrimages to important sites in the South. I use music and to educate, entertain and create opportunities for cross cultural engagement and inspiration. http://reggieharrismusic.com
How We Got Started
Reggie Harris has been a vital part of the international folk and acoustic music family for over 40 years. As one half of the outstanding duo, Kim and Reggie Harris, he traveled the world spreading hope and light through song to audiences of all ages. Now solo, this consummate musician and songwriter is also a Kennedy Center teaching artist and a Woodrow Wilson Scholar. He is Co-President and Music Education Director for the UU Living Legacy Project, an organization that leads pilgrimages to sites of the Modern Civil Rights movement. Reggie’s latest CD release “Ready To Go” has reenergized his status as an artist who uses music to entertain, educate and build community throughout the world.

My favorite customer success story. Here are two:
Years ago, we recorded a CD of freedom songs that African Americans and Jewish Americans have in common with a friend, Rabbi Jonathan Kligler. We released the CD and did our promo and press releases to some but not great effect. It was well received but got swamped by many others releases. However, one day, an email came in from a festival producer in Austria. It seems he had been looking for an act that could present a concert of songs that brought together two cultural perspectives as one. He said "I sat at my computer and typed "African American, Jewish, Freedom songs" into the search engine and your CD popped right up!" Months later, the three of us were on a plane and were featured in a concert in Graz, Austria. That contact has resulted in a great friendship and 4 subsequent tours to Austria and Germany.
And 2nd story:
Last summer I took a chance and spent the money to go to exhibit at a conference in St Louis to represent a new performance venture. While there at the booth (for 8 hours a day) a woman came up and said that she knew of me and my work for years through a friend but had never actually seen me perform. We talked and I presented the info on this new presentation which she said wasn't exactly what she was looking for. "But," she asked "How often do you get to Texas?" I mentioned that I had a solo tour in TX in 4 months and was looking for extra dates. She and I have now added 4 dates onto that original tour and that makes for a great trip. She may yet book my other presentation because she will not only get to see me work but we now have a working relationship. It happened just because we were in the same spot and had a conversation.

After knowledge, talent and experience, networking is the key reason for my success. There are so many benefits. And most of it is about expanding your horizons in every direction. Being open, willing to ask questions and willing to share information with others has opened every major door that I’ve walked through. The job that I got that put me on my career path came from a relationship that had nothing to do with the field I’m in. When ever I mentor young young people, I am always careful to say that who you know and the circles you put yourself into will determine far more about your success and how well you do what you do.
While aI think it's important for parents to try to engage their children in activities, sometimes beyond what their present interests might be. It's an entirely different thing to "push" or "force" children into a business because of THEIR own desire for fame, money or whatever. It's a wonderful...

While aI think it's important for parents to try to engage their children in activities, sometimes beyond what their present interests might be. It's an entirely different thing to "push" or "force" children into a business because of THEIR own desire for fame, money or whatever. It's a wonderful thing to be an entertainer. But it is a hard and brutal business in many ways and filled with scenarios that can be damaging to the development of an individual. Balance must always rule when dealing with children and any endeavor that requires as much time, effort and emotional involvement as the entertainment or sports world.

I know I am never at my creative best early in the morning but late morning or afternoon suits me just fine.
