That we need money pumped into our economy seems obvious to me. Nearly half of American businesses were forced to suspend operations for several months and unemployment soared. Many businesses will never reopen. Entire industries—-travel, hospitality, fitness, special events & weddings—-have been dealt a mortal wound.

But I don’t favor the practice of simply handling out $1200 here and there. That is unsustainable. 

Before I was born, both of my grandfathers worked in Works Progress Administration (WPA) jobs. The WPA sponsored a wide range of employment opportunities for Americans. Even artists were funded; there are WPA funded works of art in the collections of museums to this day. Funding employment brings numerous benefits to the country on a micro and macro level. I vote for a revival of the WPA to put American citizens back to work in full-time living-wage employment.
