How We Got Started

Not only that, but Mandi did not patronize the children, yet I never really saw any children get bored or struggle. That in itself is an accomplishment, but my daughter struggles with self-esteem issues and she was running and having fun and trying her best which was amazing to see. Mandi truly has a gift for this type of thing."

I have seen a firm lose dozens of clients because they decided to implement a tier system for their clients. They had 3 tiers and within a year a large portion of their lowest tier, left to go elsewhere. It was not much money, but those clients had a sour taste in their mouths so they didn't have nice things to say about that particular firm. They have since been bought out and have been completely rebuilt. The small clients may not pay much, but there are a lot more of them and together they can be very loud. I work in the moment, when I am working with a client, they are the most important person in the world at that moment. I only answer emergency calls if I am onsite and my phone is off during meetings, regardless of how much they pay me or use my services, even if they are just a potential client.

The sales people are pushy and continue to call even after I have threatened lawsuits. The leads are not fully vetted, and some are very much from questionable sources. They promote that they offer "safe" referrals for their clients because they do independent background checks on the companies they refer out, but what they don't tell their clients is the only person they do a background check on is the owner of the companies and they DO NOT require those companies to do their own background checks on employees. I asked, just because I was curious, if they would care if I had had felons working for me and the sales guy said, "Oh, we only do a background check on you, not your staff. (…) No you don't have to do background checks either." Yet there commercials advertise that the technicians they send to your home are properly vetted. They seem to be a very ethically questionable company at best.

An honest promise can never go wrong and as a general rule allows you to almost always come in under budget and ahead of deadlines, but even if you don't you, still fulfilled your promise, because it was realistic. This isn't as big of a wow for them, but it allows you to have a lot of little wow moments, and that is the key to retention and referrals, in my opinion.
