Always stand your ground while never compromising your level of professionalism. If you are unable to reason with them, it is time to discontinue the meeting, or hold your tongue when you know you are not going to be able to make progress during this exchange. Sometimes it is difficult to stop the meeting, so during those times, I’ve let them just talk, which could be exactly what is needed. However, do not let them degrade or completely disrespect you.
