I engage in widespread networking and have developed relationships with veterinary clinics, groomers, trainers, pet rescues and pet product retailers within my service area. Now I exchange referrals between these varied service providers and we support one another to the benefit of pet guardians. In short, we all serve the same clientele but in different ways.

To accomplish that I must do three things: 1. Be honest, demonstrate integrity, be ethical and transparent in my business practices. 2. Develop a good reputation in the community over time. 3. Offer excellent customer service. In short, I strive to be honest, transparent, proactive, humble and equitable. If I do those things then I am confident that people will speak favorably of me.

(more) I began as a pet dog trainer teaching group classes at a dog daycare. When I formed my own business I expanded first into the realm of dog safety and bite prevention, offering free educational programs throughout the community and seeking donations from businesses and individuals to help pay for materials. Then I earned a canine behavior certification and began offering professional services for dogs who may or may not have benefited from training, but whose real need was help with fears and phobias. There are very few dog trainers competent in that realm. Next, I began writing a Canine Connection column for the local community, and a monthly blog and magazine articles for The Pet Professional Guild. I expanded my service area to three counties and went where no other trainers were servicing the population. I also actively formed working relationships with numerous veterinarians and partner with them to provide holistic care to their clients, offering free educational materials of value to those families. Now I am offering educational classes through the local school system as a public service. The result of this is that I enjoy widespread recognition and half of my new clients each year come from referrals. Being a contributing member of local communities earns trust and provides help to others. It is good for the community, and good for business.

A typical ad may be a client testimonial with a slideshow of their adorable dog (with written permission of the pet owner) and my business card/logo or other information identifying my business. Client testimonials often refer to their initial problem and how satisfied they are with the result of my services. I post it and monitor FB activity. If I see several hundred Likes and Views then I run an ad, focusing on the county where I live and the age group I wish to target. I ask each new client how they heard of me and why they chose to work with me, so I have a good idea what is working in terms of marketing.

There is a very authentic looking Santa in costume and plenty of volunteers offering games and activities to children, and free gift wrapping. Low-income families come to select from among about 200 donated items so they can gift them to their loved ones for Christmas. It is a heart warming evening which truly represents the spirit of compassion and charity, and Happy Buddha Dog Training is glad to be a part of it.
