With the friendly attitude of its staff, PNC is completely different. It operates more like a credit union of old. When I first signed up, one employee advised me not to get credit cards for a while. He was spot on because I had hospital bills that I couldn't pay.
Nine years later, I have four credit cards and a car loan from PNC. I've rebuilt my credit and some of the credit goes to PNC for advising me. I tell other people to try them out, you can't go wrong using PNC. "

Inflation is hurting me big time. Our government is out of touch with ordinary Americans. I’m not optimistic for the economy this year. We’re printing too much money and I don’t see the Federal Reserve fixing that soon. Wish I could be more hopeful but we don’t have a good president anymore.

It's a balance, I believe. You can spend maybe 30 minutes or so a week researching the competition. But everyone's prospective clients are different.

It's a balance, I believe. You can spend maybe 30 minutes or so a week researching the competition. But everyone's prospective clients are different.
For instance, I'm a writer who specializes in blogs and books. Other public relations people churn out news releases and try to get on TV and radio. I doubt most of them are doing that many releases any more because they aren't being used. I recall being a daily newspaper reporter and getting stupid phone calls from PR people, following up on a dumb news release they mailed me a day or two ago. I remember them being flaky and annoying. If I did PR nowadays, I'd never pester a journalist.
You must know your audience, who uses your service. You can do that by looking at past experience. Or if you're just starting out, who do you want to reach? Doctors, lawyers, construction engineers? The first rule is to know your customer. And your customer may not be the same as your competitor's.
Look at Macy's and JCPenney. They have different kinds of customers. Macy's is more upscale, Penney's is older and middle class. Most younger people buy everything online these days, so if you want to reach them, social media and online ads are the best marketing tools.
In other words, I wouldn't waste much time looking at my competitors. Aim higher; if you listen to your customer, you'll usually win them over.
Lucky for me, I receive disability income and that allows me to pay my rent. I live with a friend from my church, so we can usually work things out if I have financial issues...but I almost never have those. I'm blessed to be one of the lucky few who's been minimally affected, at least...

But then career politicians have no clue what it's like to run a business. Nor do they care to learn. They just want to get re-elected so they can stay in power.
Many small business owners may not have great credit and can't afford to pay back a loan. Duh. Since when have the big banks loaned a small business anything? I don't know of any incidents. Most small businesses start with angel investors and money from family and friends.
But we'll save the big banks who don't deserve to be bailed out. Especially when they foreclosed on us during the Great Recession. Thanks, Bank of America, for that!

Listening skills are becoming so rare today. We're all so distracted by our smartphones and issues in both our personal and professional lives. I'm one of the most guilty. But I try hard to practice listening skills because customers and even friends really appreciate them!
I've found that LinkedIn and Twitter have been the most helpful. However, I really didn't set up a good Facebook profile so I can't discount it. I've read that FB is very effective.
I haven't used Instagram much. YouTube is great if you'd like to make videos. I have yet to do a video for my...

Yes, because when I have to buy clothes, I need to try them on and feel the material to determine its quality. Since everything is made in China now, and there's so little quality control, you have to try clothes on. For instance, when I worked for JCPenney's women's department, we once got a shipment of size 14 dresses that had size FOUR labels. Big mistake! I don't recall what we did with them. I guess they got shipped back to the warehouse. But that's the kind of products that regularly come out of China. They just don't care about quality like American companies do. When I buy clothes online, I'm not always sure what I'll get. Different companies have different sizes. European clothes are usually cut slimmer than American items. You have to be careful when you're ordering on the Internet. It can take more time and with a new site, you have to read the reviews. Finally, if it doesn't fit, you have to go through the hassle of returning it. I don't have time to mess with that. So I'm surprised at the popularity of the clothing sites. It's always easier for me to run to the mall and try things on. I'm always more satisfied in the end.

The What Color Is Your Parachute? book is an excellent read for people who need to find where their best talents lie. I'm sure there are also many aptitude tests online as well.
I have a friend who worked with me at a state university. She was struggling in public relations. She was great as an editor but just had a hard time handling all the criticism that was part of the job. Fortunately, she was able to go back to school and get her master's degree in library science. Now she's perfectly happy helping students and the public do research.
What did you enjoy doing when you were a child? Say about 8 or 9 years old? The experts say that what you liked then can be a good indicator of what you'd excel at as an adult.
