I tried Thumbtack and therefore do not understand Lang's post. Thumbtack will not allow you to contact or respond to any customer inquiries until AFTER you pay them. Also Thumbtack requires you to provide them with your bank or credit card number in advance and then Thumbtack takes money out of your account whenever they choose. I lost lots of $$ as a result. Only 1 in 5 customers who directly contacted me responded back. Of the ones I contacted because they posted jobs it was about 1 in 10. I asked Thumbtack to allow me to limit the amount of money they take out of my account every month and they refused. They want to take money out of your account whenever their computer algorithms decide to. Thumbtack refused to make any changes or negotiate so I cancelled my account.
I tried TaskRabbit, but it demands use of an APP and I could never get it to function, even after paying them.
I would love to hear details from any other remodeler/handyman/contractors who have tried these computerized lead generation systems. Anyone tried Pay-Per-Click Ads? Thanks!

Cheap is what I am looking for. Why? Because I have never had a website that brought me business, not one single time in my many years of business. For me a website seems to function as a reference point. It allows potential customers to view my offerings, get to know me and get comfortable with hiring me. I am the one who refers potential customers to my website for this purpose. Despite hundreds of thousands of viewers, not a single customer has ever made a purchase from coming in cold off of my website. So why spend money?

I love making a person's environment beautiful and functional, whether it's an environment they live in or work in. Knowing that I am making their lives more beautiful, better and easier gives me a lift. I also enjoy the variety and being of service.

It is sometimes good to shake things up in any form of business, industry or government. It separates the wheat from the chaff.

I, too, have been victim of a bank "setting off" my accounts. It was a real shocker.

None of my advertising methods have result in even one single paying customer. So far, every customer has come from word of mouth. I have received zero results from the advertising I paid for as well as the promotions I did for free. So I am not a fan of advertising.

I agree. I would not unless I know from personal experience. I have a guess. One would recommend because one is getting or hopes to get something out of it. Perhaps a return recommend.
