There are many types of policies lending different coverage's and costs. It's important to focus first on the quality of coverage and second on the means to control the cost of that coverage. Be prepared to honestly provide the square footage area of the space you occupy, your gross annual sales, your annual payrolls and the value of your business property, among other things. These are all factors used to calculate a premium for the various coverage's you may need. For property coverage's, higher deductibles (the amount deducted from a claim payment) is one way to drive down costs. Alarms and measures to control losses such as fire sprinklers, low temperature monitors, cameras, automatic water shutoff devices are examples of methods to drive down property insurance costs. Camera's can also drive down crime losses and even help to defend you in a liability claim such as a slip and fall case. One word of caution on camera's: Be sure to keep records for as long as reasonably possible since liability claims are often presented just before the statute of limitations expires. Memories can be foggy making these claims harder to defend. It also means that the video record has been overwritten since your software only retains the video for up to 30 days when you really needed it for two years. You are welcome to contact me to help design a plan that's best for your circumstances.

It's possible that statutes differ, but in 35 years of insurance experience here is how I've seen it. When negligence is not involved and the tree falls due to an "act of God" such as wind or disease (let's say previously undetected or unacknowledged), the owner of the property where the tree lands is footing the bill. My tree blows over in a hurricane onto my neighbors fence and lawn - they're paying for it. If I negligently cut it with a chain saw then that's a different story. As to whether insurance is paying for the loss in the wind scenario, one needs to consider whether there was damaged property or not. In many cases landing on the lawn will cap out how much might be paid ($1,000 is common), if any, under a homeowners policy. Also, was the damage in excess of the deductible applicable to wind? The unlucky homeowner sustaining the damage would typically see their policy pay for the damage to their fence (less depreciation in most cases) minus the deductible.
Don, from the beginning your effort needs to focus on the quality of your products and the value-added you offer as their agent. If the exercise is predominantly focused on price, you’ll lose on price very quickly. A breadth of ancillary and complementary products along with knowledge of the...

Don, from the beginning your effort needs to focus on the quality of your products and the value-added you offer as their agent. If the exercise is predominantly focused on price, you’ll lose on price very quickly. A breadth of ancillary and complementary products along with knowledge of the landscape underpinning the products you market can only help. I wish you well!
