Let's not forget the money constraints all new businesses have too, so the gorilla marketing efforts have to be somewhat successful or a small business can't move forward. However the one thing I can stress is that before you put up a billboard, make sure there are cars driving by it every day. Same holds true with a website, or social media. To say you have a web page means little if you don't get eyes to see it. To post on Instagram means little if you don't have a plan to accumulate followers. And let's not forget, to talk to the same people every day does little to increase your business (though selling to an already known customer base is a good way to boost sales. To get back to the question, we use Farmers Markets. Not the same one every week, and not all within the same territory. Anything that even resembles a Farmers Market we try to do, which may include theme festivals, private tastings, or whatever.

The fact is that I can go into any business and interact with the employees and within a few minutes tell you all you need to know about the business philosophy that exists there. And this is because it starts at the top and trickles down. If the owners, not necessarily the upper management, are grumps, or penny pinchers, or zero-sum business people, or quarterly return watchers, that attitude is carried forward by the employees. If the owners are upbeat, optimistic, truly ask for employee input, are customer driven with incredible customer service, that is the organization people like to work for and it will be reflected in the day to day business activity.
