It's too soon to tell for me. I think it really depends on your genre, too. For example, I think it can be a powerful tool if you offer business head shots. If you're looking for stay-at-home moms for child portraits, it might not be a good fit. Personally, I shoot school portraits, daycare portraits, dance teams, sport teams, events and head shots. I also photograph families, babies, children and high school seniors. I don't expect to find the latter clients in Alignable...but I do hope to find the first genres I posted. Time will only tell. Worst case scenario, it's a great place to come to put our heads together on different subjects (marketing, advertising, social media, etc.). It's a great resource for that, I believe.

I've done quite a few Facebook ads. I've promoted many ads just to get my brand out there. I've had a lot of "likes" from those ads. They don't book right away, but it keeps me in their eyes and eventually they do look to me for photography. How many of them started that way? I'm not sure. I promoted approximately 2 ads per month. When people call I will ask how they heard about me and 99% of the time they say "on Facebook".

I own my own business...and I primarily do everything. So, as you can imagine, every minute of my day counts. I have "no-solicitation" signs on my doors and I treat phone calls the same. As soon as I sense that it might be a sales call, I state "I'm not interested and please take me off your calling list"...and then I hang up. I'm not trying to be rude, but I get a ton of calls every day. I don't feel that telephone sales work any longer. In a world of social media, there are so many ways to market to individuals without having to take up so much of their valuable time. Every minute I allow to be wasted is that much more time that gets pulled from my family.

I have had some of my work hung in local businesses before. The best piece of advice I can give you is, make sure where you hang your work has the clientele you wish to attract. For example, being a newborn photographer...a great place for me to hang my work might be a gynecologist's office. I'm not sure what types of artwork you create, but spend some time deciding who your ideal client is and learning where they hang out. From there, approach those businesses with your win/win opportunity. Sell them on "free decor for their office" in exchange for exposure. Good luck!
