Do you feel that Gig workers (sub-contractors) should be extended access to small business Group Health plans? Or, should they continue to be grouped through the individual and family markets? Why?

If they have thier own company and pay themselves an actual payroll they have an open enrollment from November  15th to December 15th to get themselves a group plan. Certain carriers allow this. Otherwise, Even if paying themselves a modest payroll they will most likely qualify for Tax credits through MNsure. They should talk to an accountant about the benefits of paying themselves payroll instead of living off the company. Get INC or LLc. This will also help in case of legal action.

This is very much how the Traditional approach has worked which really handcuffs contractors. Nobody’s paid very close attention but, with the elimination of the individual mandate penalty ($0) we noticed an opportunity to now build customized health plans for contractors and individuals that eliminate these traditional hurdles to accessing good PPO coverage with low or no deductible.
This is true. However, for anyone that they want to bring on they'll have to wait for November. We end up customizing these contractors to ensure that they have the same Nationwide PPO plans that small businesses can have access to. This comes with lower premiums than they would get from the Traditional approach.
