What method did you use to find your first client/clients as a small business owner?

I worked on Jackson Square... put my art on that old Iron fence and waited. Didn't take long. A lady showed up in a panic because she wanted her portrait done before her flight back home. It was my first day on the "Square" and I came out early and no other artists were there...hahaha. So I got the sketch job. The exposure was the trick. Later Liberty Gallery on Royal St. sold my work for many years and many more people saw my work there. For me it is getting the art work ( my product) out in a good venue for that all important exposure. Now I also do festival venues where I can set up a tent and my attractive display. People love to meet, talk with and buy from the person who has created the art ( or whatever).
