It is also important to empower the staff through training, respect and get buy in to have an "owners mentality". There still needs to be a clear line of professionalism and understanding of chain of command.

If you are not investing in your team, and their professional development, then they will never achieve at the highest level. Whether it is a financial investment to send to a specific training course, or you are investing your own time and energy to instruct them in the areas that need improvement and how to do it, it is essential to the overall long term development of the team, and as a result, the office. Anyone that feels they already know everything and have no room to improve is a hurdle in the way of the progression of the office as a whole. When the team attends these development courses and returns with ideas and input, everyone benefits. The team, the Doctor and especially the patient. Now, somewhere there has been an improvement made that is going to either make the visit more efficient, increase the quality of work being done or both. In most cases, you get out what you put in, and the professional development of your team is no exception.
