Do you edit your own stuff?

I definitely find having someone else look at my work helps a ton, whenever I can. I can fall into the trap of seeing what I INTENDED to put down and not what actually IS there when I read my own work, unless I let sufficient time pass between when I wrote it and when I'm proofreading it. Also, having that 2nd pair of eyes proofread something can help with things where I know what I mean, but someone else does not, so I know I need to clarify a point or section of the document or article I wrote.

Unless it's a quicky, no, I do not edit my own stuff; I always hire an editor. When you write something, especially if it's long, you become too close to the document, such that you see what you expect to be there rather than what is actually there. Someone with a more objective perspective can point out not just the typos, but also issues with structure and development. I have a group of writing/editing friends, and we pass around documents as we write them for editing. I'm always looking to work with new people, though, so if you have something you've written that you need edited, I'd be happy to take a look.

As a designer and published author, I quickly realized you can only edit your work so far. Beyond that you need fresh eyes and a skilled editor. When most people claim they can edit their own work, they are only fooling themselves - a report or article is one thing, a 160,000 word novel is quite another.

Yes, I do edit my own stuff. Several times actually and never just once or twice. I have had others edit my stuff too but I'm good at spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, and presentation so usually can edit quite well. I have also edited other peoples' writings too for many years and can spot the outpoints right away. Sometimes I like to get some one else to edit as well. But I usually do my own several times until I can't see anything else to change. Then I need a second set of eyes.

Yes, I do. It's a very specific and I'm usually one of the creative links in the process so I know the universe very well. If I have a need for someone like you in the future, I'll definitely consider it, however!

when it comes to writing reading material, I like to let some one else edit. but when it's my original music, I prefer to edit it myself.

Hi Jojo. Yes, I do edit my own stuff. Although, I should probably write more stuff than I do. And I definitely need to be making more money than I do right now. When both of those are true, I'll consider you for editing!

For better or for worse, yes. One day though...I'm going to hit that-- hire a few people to create content and make it smoke--plateau....oh, it's coming!! :  ) 

I do as much editing as I can and then pass it on to an exterior viewpoint for suggestions, comments, etc.  I am absolutely too close to my creation to always know how it will reach my audience.  

Yes, I do.  I was a legal secretary for a long time so I'm comfortable doing so.
