Has the trend in coffee shops changed from commercial to more local in your area?

Hi Mario, I wish I could tell you yes, the trend is going more local, however, Starbucks is still the coffee leader in our area, by far. Local coffee shops who provide more than just coffee tend to do much better. Our's is a bread bakery & Café, as well, so we are not dependent on strictly coffee sales. I fully believe the most successful businesses are those that are 'known' for something. If you are strictly a coffeeshop, find some way to make yourself unique and stand out from the Starbucks, etc. Unfortunately, being local does not always make as big an impact as it should. Hope this helps!

Hello Mario,

Yes. The Bottom Line Coffee House is an independent, local coffee shop in Midtown Detroit. We are a neighborhood coffee bar that connects with the community by offering a relaxing and welcoming environment. We enjoy the relationships that we build with our customers and support our local arts and music community with art shows and weekly "Open Mic" nights.

As the revitalization of Detroit continues more local coffee businesses have opened in and around the city.

There are still commercial coffee shops here, but the growth in independent coffee shops offers consumers more options to "Shop Small" and support small local businesses.

There will always be the commercial options with a mix of mom & pop that are willing to put in the work and innovation to survive and prosper.

It has always been geared towards local in my small town. But there are quite a few small shops, as well as Starbucks. Erica Shute stated it very well, you have to stand out at something. We have been doing it for 8 years and service, freshness and selection are what we are known for. Our very robust tiered rewards program is also something that helps.

Hello there. My husband and I opened GoodWorks Coffee House, a small local coffee shop in Chicopee Ma about a year ago. We have received much support from the community and our customers express their appreciation to have a local family owned coffee shop where they feel "home away from home." We love to see our customers reading a book, writing, meeting with a friend and taking a moment to relax when in the coffee house. In the surrounding cities there have been more  small local cafes opening up as well.

Yes absolutely. Local, farm to cup coffee shops, with local baked goods is what’s hot in our community. The southern states are experiencing a more feel good homey interest. Hope this helps.

Most local coffee shops close within several months. However there is becoming a culture of support. If we local shops can persevere for 2-3 years we should be ok

more  local for sure except for Starbucks.

ive been here 11 years now and have never feared starbucks or other commercial shops...I think local is always better if you do it right
