For me, personally, it was a gradual change. When I first opened my business my focus was on business-to-business telemarketing. I started adding tasks like invoicing and payroll, more admin stuff, after a couple of years and I soon realized that I really enjoyed doing that, more so than the calls. So I decided to switch my focus to more of the admin side. After talking to several business owners and learning that that was an area they, and many others, were struggling with in their business, I knew I had made the right decision. I still do the odd telemarketing work, because I'm good at it, but my passion is in the paperwork!
Actually I've gone the other way. I offer Education By Entertainment TV game show style programs designed to show people more about how they think so they can be safer, more productive and better communicators. My programs are for A: Academics; B: Birthdays and Businesses; C: Celebrations, Conferences and Conventions.
I started out by offering one program, Games to Explain Human Factors, and over time have expanded largely because people have requested other programs (as I recall the first add on was in leadership development) and because I have seen additional markets for our programs (e.g., our programs are more fun than most parties -- which they are -- so the idea came up that we could offer our programs to make parties more fun... Plus party time rarely conflicts with business or school hours).
I worked for a Uniform Co. for 20 years. The last 3 yrs I had moved and they let me work from my home. New Mangement came in and let me go, just like that. So I started my own business and work from my home and sell Logo Apparel, Uniforms, Work Wear and Promotions all over the US. Have had my own business now for 8 year.
While working for my former employer, I discovered a knack for understanding how database servers work and how to tune them and their environment for optimal performance. I became active in the online community of Database Administrators working with the database system that I am most familiar with mainly to be able to learn from others in the community and to get feedback on my own ideas. However, I soon began answering questions myself and developed a reputation. I soon realized that I have a marketable skill that I could offer to many organizations around the world and left that company to start consulting. While I do general development projects and occasionally am brought in on generic database administration and database architecture issues, I mostly work in that niche where my reputation is well known.
Great question. I identified the target market with whom I shared my background and experience. In this case it was professionals occupying positions up through mid-management. This is how I market my services and these are the clients who contact me for an initial consultation. So far it has worked well for me.
A little bit of a long story but my background is as a financial analyst, but I never wanted to be viewed as simply a 'number cruncher' and I wanted to be more of a front of the house person.
So, during the 2009 financial collapse, when I questioned my corporate role, I decided to go back to school - business school (IE Business School in Madrid, Spain) - and became hooked on entrepreneurship.
This passion for entrepreneurship led me to launch a few technology platforms, Career Mentor Me, HelpMore, and MyHealthierBody. But what I found with each company I started was that I always gravitated to what I knew best and enjoyed most – the analytics of the company – which made me realize that I should start a company where the analytical piece is the core of the business offering.
And that is how I niched down to accounting and fractional financial support with Simple Startup.
I wanted to sell things as a way to continue to have contact with people. I only do indoor farmers markets, spring and Christmas markets in my area of the city. I stopped doing markets all over town that required a lot of driving and I also put a dollar limit on what I would pay to be at a market.
I have studied and tried multiple healing modalities and Reflexology and REIKI resonated with me. I decided to give them all my focus. I truly enjoy working with every one of my clients. I look forward to seeing my regular clients and I'm always excited to meet new ones.
No nitching down here. Just keeping up with so many couples moving their dates, venues, ensemble sizes, etc. Moving a lot to 2021, booking a lot of new 2021 and 22 weddings AND organizing music, physical and electronic files, and office!
We went from oils classes in my home & elsewhere to Zoom classes & One to ones on Zoom or phone or in public, keeping safe distance etc.. People are clamoring for natural solutions for immune support, emotional support & healthy home products in this scary time.
