How do I get my name out there as a contracting company?

I recently opened my own contracting company, I am having trouble getting the word out. My wife is always trying to promote us online but maybe we are missing something.

So SA is kind of behind the times.  If you are a subcontractor, call and or visit the GC's and speak to the estimators or purchasing guys, ask to get on their bid list.  If you get the opportunity to bid, make certain that you put a disclosure on the bid that any additional work will be additional cost.  Good luck.

I would recommend doing SEO. That’s really helps me out. If you need a guy I have a guy that is great and charges fair prices.

Generally understood in construction company marketing that job site signs are the most cost effective form of advertising.  Networking with architects also seems to work well for some.

Good luck.

Building a solid reputation is the best marketing tool

Hi Justin - DD is working hard to spread the word about our design services, too.  Trying to attend more lunch and learns, networking events, anything to keep spreading the word organically and in person. And working to align with business partners in the industry who are more established than DD (e.g. landscape companies), to spread the word about how we can specify outdoor furnishings for their clients - just trying to be an “additive” to existing businesses.

Ok, try this:  Go to: https://www.thomasnet.com/ - this is Thomas Register (TR). Look up various business types in the area you choose (say, 75 miles radius of your location). This is grunt work! Retrieve both the email and physical addresses, names, and all that from either Thomas Register or from the websites of the companies referenced by TR. Grow this list as you have time. Use Excel spreadsheet to store this - paying attention to column header names (field names) and keeping this as a database in Excel. You use Excel as the handiest tool for this as it has many options for just this sort of application. This is a business list (not consumer/household - do that later.)

You really want business clients as their needs normally are for higher budgets and bigger jobs.

Create both a designed email and a brochure (12 pages is good). You send BOTH - print and email. You do not need to use email sending company but could use them if you wish - as there are relatively few (under a thousand for sure.) In truth your emails are spam, BUT, they are offering genuine, helpful, important, and valuable services. Just send these emails only once a month and include ability to UNsubscribe.

Then mail your color brochure to specifically named people at these companies. Brochure should be GREAT looking and well done. Throw your BusCard in each one too. You might consider offering a FREE coffee mug if someone calls and asks for it. Point being to have, now, TWO leave-behinds - the brochure and the coffee mug which hopefully remain in recipients' possession as reminders to call you. This is called TOP-OF-MIND device as it helps to keep you top of mind when they need you.

AND, we can help you do this if you wish. Skyborough. https://skyborough.com  xxx-xxx-xxxx. The brochure uses Print On Demand technology so you do not need to print more than you need right now... a few is fine. See my website page at: https://skyborough.com/print-pod.

That URL explains how Print on Demand works (along with sub menu items on that topic as this same location.)

Most important: this is long term, repeated project NOT a one time thing to do. You do as much as you can afford and just keep doing it. Make sure you delete email addresses that asked to UNsubscribe.

As for consumer, home owners, etc. that is harder to get a good list and email may be less available so print has to work. For these guys, make sure you have refrigerator magnets with your info and services. They are remarkably effective for consumer/household TOP-OF-MIND devices also.

Just look for companies that you are wanting to connect with and send an invite. Also the Elkhart Commerce Center is an excellent source as well as linkedin.

I don't farm out anything I have website Facebook.com/svsgeneralcontracting page and I post on my Facebook page an share it on local groups like  ??? Side jobs or ???? Buy and sell and show my work and the problems I resolve.  My taglines always give the problem a resolution and contact info and as things have slowed in the area I am in i do the same thing in areas within 5 hours of my home location and have have gone from 2,000.00 jobs locally to 10,000.00 plus jobs

Internet has worked best and word of mouth from satisfied customers
