LOGISTICS in my opinion is a key element that should be monitored daily. Redefining and streamlining should be discussed monthly and possibly quarterly on an overall basis in regards to re-evaluating and making necessary changes to improve(addressing your bottleneck). IMPROVEMENT ON PROVIDING THE BEST POSSIBLE SERVICE IN A MORE EFFICIENT MANNER /CUTTING COST AND ANALYZING ERROR WILL DERIVE CONTINUAL GROWTH AND CUSTOMER SATISIFACTION, AIDING TO PROVIDE JIT DELIVERY, QC (QUALITY CONTROL).
We watch shipping costs constantly. Comparing USPS, FED EX and UPS as well as LTL carriers. These costs are so high they need to be monitored for the best rates at all times.
Hi Christy, Our accounting department evaluates our Logistics every quarter... We also contact our most frequent customers to see if our products arrive in excellent condition or if they arrive broken. If we see a problem or a rate change that is out of line we take a look immediately. We charge shipping to all of our customers so shipping costs is a factor. We have seen many of our suppliers switch from UPS to FED-EX due to the lower cost and the same service. Also, consider the cost to your company to have either UPS or FED-EX come and pick up your packages...
Negotiating freight charges is a constant and ongoing process. Finding freight brokers is not a problem; we get at least two solicitations a week from new logistics firms. Narrowing them down to ones we can absolutely count on is the challenge.
Most projects are extensive and over a long period, many over 1 year or more ... our relationship is constantly being renegotiated and is based on a detailed contract we developed over many years and is propriety in nature ...John
We're a small business that spends around $16,000/year in transportation/logistics. We don't negotiate rates, we went with the 3PL that offered us the best value along with a discount program with UPS package. We are a Worldwide customer.
Not often as the rates for the most part are dictated by the largest ocean and air carriers - we value the service provided and will pay a slightly higher rate given we have exposure to our freight 24/7 and providers who value our business! We for the most part never use the standard carriers, UPS, FEDEX and the like as their rates are not even close to competitive for ocean or air freight!

We currently use WWE now. Just getting through the first year with them and things are going good. We will be talking about rates here soon.

Constantly, and constantly!

Hi Christy,
We do not do much shipping of our products and our vendors do their own shipping.
