If you were offered a new job which entailed a big move, how would you go about explaining that you are happy staying at your own business?

I would Thank the company for the opportunity presented to you, but just tell them at this moment you are not in a position personally or in business to make a change. Just be cordial, professional and never close the door to an opportunity. But never look back again on this opportunity, just concentrate on moving forward.

Depends if you own your own  home at current job/state.  If no....I would see how much cost of living around new are vs the new salary you would be getting. See if it would balance out and see if you would really be making more money.

 If you just wanted to stay where you are at but make more money....hopefully your current supervisor would want to keep you and offer a counter offer...may not be as much as new job...but could possibly make a little more money at same job.

Think about each situation, and notice which one makes you smile more.  It's not about what you "should" do.  It's about what you want to do. 

Always many things to consider there. Financially would it be rewarding enough to uproot your life and family (if that applies)? Is it just the notion of a "change" that appeals or is it a position that will actually fulfill you more than your current situation? What does this new position look like 2, 5, 10 years down the line? Often times people make rash decisions and take the "new" opportunity when they could have dedicated the time necessary to make changes where they are. It's not always easy to develop a fresh perspective on job you currently hold but the reality is, that can be all the difference. 

Hello Julie, If you are on the fence, pray on it. The answer will come and in earnest, your heart and soul will benefit with your choice.

If you have already made up your mind, gratefully decline and consider a colleague who may be a good fit that you can recommend.

This is a hard question and there are many issues that could direct your decision. How do you like the area where you live and how deep are your roots? Were you looking or did this offer come out of the blue? Although you are an adult what about family, do they live close and are you happy that they are. Have you looked into the hiring company, do they nurture the kind of personality that would start there own business? I think the most important issue to look at is how does this new position fit into your life goals.

One of the things I do is maintain and build website. I was offered a job in DC making a 5 figure income supervising a IT Dept. that would have required that I relocated. I had to turn it down. We are happy in Texas and have no plans on relocating.

I would acknowledge I was thankful for the opportunity and explain, without giving a lot of fluff, that I have made a decision to remain with my current company. Be to the point
