I chose state regulation but in reality, it's municipal regulation. About 25% of the businesses in my community are home-based entrepreneurs. They make up a significant percentage of the homeowner community but our city government regards this group as a potential threat to the city's "quality of life". So we get slapped with arbitrary standards and regulations as well as fees and taxes according to the whim of whatever homeowners' association has a city councilman's ear. We've decided we've had enough suspicion and outright abuse and we're organizing to vote as a bloc on municipal elections.
The Health care requirements are an issue. The way Obama care has inflated insurance rates base on their predictions with the younger population that the inflation has gone to the older population that are at retirement ages.
Both State and Local Government officials are often swayed by "Big business" in their greed for higher tax revenue and the pursuit plaques for their walls. We are seeing our Government assist monopolies to eliminate many "Mom and Pop" stores.
National companies buy smaller Junior Poster companies. They then trade the billboard locations with local zoning officials for large interstate LED billboard permits. This takes away the affordable medium, Junior Posters which start ups often use to promote their services or local events.
Local zoning officials regulate a Mom & Pop sign to a ridiculous small size and then allow their box store competitor free reign on building size. How is a small business sign any different than looking at acres of Walmart wall?
Zoning officials create stifling ordinances yet we all know large operators get variances while the non connected don't.
Regulations are needed, but careful oversight is crucial to protect the "American Dream" for our children.
I'm a wedding planner, and I could be fined if I don't choose to plan a wedding for someone in the LGBT community. It goes against my Christian principles and I shouldn't be forced to choose between my business and my faith. I feel there should be a compromise of some sort, such as allowing us to refer the couple to someone who will accommodate them.
Paying a social security tax of 15% on my adjusted gross while already receiving a social security pension that cannot increase is very wrong. Tax reform is needed.
Health and obamma care! Tax rates a second.
I believe that, in essence, it all goes to regulations. Especially if you consider that taxes, mandates, etc are all "regulations". I don't support a "wild West free-for-all" type of environment, but for the government to try and regulate and mandate every aspect of peoples lives (companies are, btw, owned and operated by people) is ridiculous and not in keeping with the spirit of our constitution. (Remember "liberty"?)
So, if what someone, or some company, is doing infringes on your rights then take the appropriate legal steps to counteract that action. So many government regulations are based on what someone "may" do. Instead, they need to just concentrate on law enforcement if someone "does" do something that infringes on others rights.
My company is in energy efficiency and renewables for commercial buildings. The new Administrations rhetoric of moving away from renewables back to coal is a deterrent and step backwards when the rest of the world is moving forward towards becoming energy self sufficient. This is now carrying over into State politics. I don't believe that the self interests of politicians should be an influence if their constituents favor the benefits from renewable energy sources.
None of these. The fact that it's 2017 and marijuana is not legal across the country is a huge shock and disappointment to me. I mean, come on---alcohol is much worse and legal---government needs to get their heads on straight---legalize MJ---offer it, regulate it and tax it....and POOF---a lot of problems solved.
Taxes get me; if I didn't have to pay so much in taxes I could have a wonderful lifestyle. It's killer... especially when my taxes go to support freeloaders who do not share my work ethic and feel entitled to live for free of my hard work!
