I always say versatility is key.  Whether it is versatility in the voice, able to do characters or accents or just tones, hard sell, soft sell or casual conversational reads, but also versatility in the working relationship.  Is the voice artist able to meet your timelines, able to work with you on retakes and on price.  As a voice over artist for over 30 years I have found that being able to be versatile has helped me with working with some major companies, like RIM...
