What are important things to consider when sending referrals?

Hello from beautiful Montana,

I do send referrals because I have always been known as a connector.  I know people who know people who know people who can help you.

When I share a name or company, I say "Perhaps Steve can help you find the  help you are looking for.  He seems to be quite connected in that arena of business."

I do not feel that I need to have used a person or company to mention their name.  I am pretty intuitive and would not send someone to a person or company that seemed out of kilter.

Best wishes for a dynamite new decade.

Really understanding what (and the value) that the person you are referring someone to provides, and understand what the other person needs. (You would be surprised how many people refer someone when they are not really sure 'what you need' .... Example, I was looking for someone local to 'foil' my hair (which means they strip color out and tone it, it doesn't mean 'coloring' your hair). Several people referred me to their hairdresser because she is 'good with blondes' or 'does a great color job'...so those were not good referrals).

I only refer clients to businesses that I trust.

One of the easiest, and in my opinion best, ways to build a small business is from referrals.

Building a business off referrals saves you time and money on marketing. Not that you never have to market your business, but you’ll be able to spend less time and money marketing your business if you are able to get referrals.

Another benefit of referrals is that it gives you the upper hand. When you are referred to a new customer or client, they’ve already heard great things about you. In fact, if you’re really using referrals to build your business, these new customers and clients will come to you.

Need to know what the person does, where they are and what they stand for

Cannot refer otherwise

Never "refer" someone (a Business) that you do not "know".  Being "friends" on Facebook or "connected" on LinkedIn or any other platform  is not "knowing".  Personal experience with the Business or a recommendation, from someone you trust, is knowing".  I only "refer" someone if they meet these qualifications. I have never been surprised or disappointed!_!

When I refer someone I have to know them. That is, I have worked with them a certain number of times so I know first hand that they are talented, competent, trustworthy and are dedicated to their craft.

I would only send a referral of a person or business that I know something about or have met.  A referral is almost like a promise that you give to someone ensuring great service and a real concern for your clients. As a Travel Professional I feel it is important not to waste time or money, to be real and to provide the best service available.

I always speak to the owner first before I send a referral. I want to make sure the customer has a great experience. Word of mouth is golden in CBD and the confectionery industry. Another thing I do is get a collection of reviews and visit websites. I would like to make sure I have back up companies or websites for the individuals.
