I make and sell a board game called Wahoo or Aggravation. I've had more orders this year than I've ever had and I assume that's because people have been staying home. Having said this I'm ready to return to some form of normalcy.
I don't think anyone anticipated this year and the hardships we've been through; however I'm grateful that I've made it through so far and can say I've learned a lot about myself and what it really takes to not only to survive but to thrive. I used the time off to acquire my Mortgage and Insurance licenses and I'm working on providing a wider spectrum of Financial Services to my clients. I have also learned how to use Social Media to market to a larger Sphere of Influence. Instagram, FB and Youtube are now my friends and not anything to be intimidated about.
I have been able to find new ways to help people and businesses. During the pandemic requests by companies for corporate trainings have doubled. I have been able to meet needs for compact (60 minutes), interesting webcasts that address issues such as Leading during a pandemic, Facing the holidays during Covid 19, and Mental wellness during the pandemic. Also, my psychotherapy practice has increased about 30 percent. Up next, in the coming months, will be trainings looking at how to drop that quarantine 15! I have been able to be of service. This is my silver lining!
I was able to adapt to online business ventures.
The biggest silver lining has been restructuring my business and my life so I get to work with more small businesses to grow their revenue and reach. I created an inexpensive group coaching program that any small business can afford, that gives them a roadmap to real business growth.
The other silver lining has been that I've found ways to take more time off (and help my clients restructure their businesses so they get more time off) and have a life that's more in balance than ever before. All in all, it's been a good year.
In real estate the silver lining has clearly been historically low interest rates that accompanied the collapsing economy. This both spurred activity in real estate sales and simultaneously allowed many to refinance their current mortgages, easing their debt burdens either through lower interest rates or consolidating debt as well. I don't believe there have ever been mortgage interest rates as low as they've been this fall so we're likely to see an unusually active winter market.
OaklandCounty County’s 25 years of exemplary financial policies and procedures under the direction of L Brooks Patterson & his Economic Development Team, whereby the OaklandCounty Policies & procedures are used by The Securities & Exchange Commission to train other counties in the country how to become more successful. Over this period of time OaklandCounty has never lost its Tripple A Bond Rating through recessions. OaklandCounty makes up 25% of Michigan’s overall economy. Therefore during the last 10 months of covid19, we have been able to have grants & aid & emergency funding for our business & residential communities, thanks to the foresight of Brooks Patterson & the Team.
Because of the virus, we have increased the number of people joining our program and working from home beginning in January by about 24%.
Between people losing their jobs, or hours cut back, people can't rely on working for someone else. They never know if they will have a job tomorrow. So they have decided to make a change and learn a new career where they can stay at home and work in their own business whenever they want. With our help, teaching them, and having the tools and guidance to help them succeed. They are never left alone. We all work together to help each other succeed financially.
Simply put, It MADE me grow my business. The uncertainty made me expand and create new avenues to reach people that I had not done prior to the shutdowns.
It also made me refocus on the services I render to make sure that every day, I was improving in some capacity. It forced me to look inward and evaluate myself to ensure that I was doing everything I could to make the absolute best of this situation - both personally and professionally.
