I first step back from the challenge, seek wisdom from God and then tackle the challenge that is before me. The Bible say, he that lack wisdom , to ask for it. When you do you will also be successful in all that you do. If that hiring someone expertise you need, or he gives it to you to resolve.
When I first started, it was a challenge to get visibility so I joined the local radio and got my own show!
Backing off my opinion and listening to others seems to help a ton
I'll go first. One of the biggest struggles I had in running my business was the number of apps and tools I needed to bolt together. When the pandemic hit and all my clients basically stopped running campaigns, I had time to really dig into my processes and research alternatives. I found new software and processes to replace most of the disappointed apps I was using. This gave me the ability to rebuild my business model with a scalable system.
When covid hit, clients didn't want to come to my office, nor did I really want them coming. While I had used Zoom a little in the past and online secure portal for bookkeeping clients to share information, I really hadn't done it very much with my tax preparation clients. I started to really reach out to clients with phone calls, emails and link to my secure portal. Now about 65% of my clients share everything on line and with zoom for review of tax returns and accounting. They save time and money by not having to travel to my office. Plus, we catch missing documents before those that drive, get to the office. Bonus my clients don't worry about natural disasters destroying their original documents. They can access them 24/7 thru the secure encrypted portal.
Automate the tedious processes
Perhaps one of the most creative and significant solutions for our business over the past four decades was the use of accounts receivable insurance. This eliminated the need for a accounts receivable person on staff and greatly enhanced our ability to secure credit from our banks. With our AR guaranteed the banks had little to no risk and loaned accordingly. This has been one of the many tactics I have been able to show my advisory board clients.
I managed a production group in the past, and the difficulty was I was swamped with subordinates coming in with issues, problems, hold ups etc etc. I changed from asking 'what's up now'? to 'don't tell me what you can't do, tell me what you can do'. It changed the flavor enough so that they started thinking on their own what they could do to get around an issue.
Hired someone to draft invoices for me every month. I still have to fix the details, but it stops me from procrastinating to avoid a task that needs to stay on schedule.
If you hate a regular part of running your business, hire someone who loves doing it. I have been so much happier since I added support for billing and taxes!
