I guess I would have to ask: For what purpose?

Facebook is great for announcing promos & specials! LinkedIn is better for serious minded professionals....various other Ad posting sites is where I find my real buyers & customers.

Yes, it depends upon your purpose. But most important, know the habits of your target market - see which platforms they tend to use and for what. Worth a survey.

Judith, you are asking the wrong question. The right question is, "what do I want/expect from social media?" That is then followed by "what investment can I make in social media?" The answers to those questions will inform "what social media should I be using?"

We frequently utilize facebook as well as specifically targeted e-mail blasts.

I regularly use and have been successful with LinkedIn, Facebook & Houzz . All have been great tools in crating new programs, recruiting and generating a positive brand message.

Social media marketing increases your brand's awareness. ... Social media marketing helps to validate your brand. A company's social media presence, when done correctly, tells consumers that their brand is active and focused on thriving communication with consumers.

Facebook is the biggest and arguably most powerful social network in the world with 1.55 billion active monthly users. Regardless if you are a startup or fortune 500 company, you need to be on Facebook and start *engaging with your consumers. (*Positively. We don't want to replicate Amy's Baking Company's mistake).

Twitter is known as the ''in the moment'' platform and boasts a respectful 255 million active monthly users. Twitter is a perfect online marketing tool for businesses that want to reach out to people (and are ready for a reply). The key is to be quick and smart, ever heard of dunk in the dark?

Instagram is a visual platform designed for customers to post, share, comment and engage through digital media. As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

LinkedIn is regarded as the professional social networking site. LinkedIn largely focuses on b2b marketing rather than b2c.

All of these popular social media sites are effective. Since ad costs are low and posting is free, I suggest using all of them and tracking their results. This should reveal which ones provided the best results for your campaign. Be careful, though, not to sound like ad copy. That's a big turn-off to most social media users.
