FB used to be great but now the only way people see your posts is if you pay to advertise. We are a small, low margin company so marketing budget is non-existent. I'm currently looking for ways to reach more people on more platforms. Never have "gotten" the Twitter appeal, and need to utilize Instagram and LinkedIn more.

I most enjoy performing my 45 minute long magic show, and seeing the faces if astonishment each time I surprise them with the unexpected. If you'd like to see my show, go to the URL search bar at the top of your computer screen and enter, "biloximagician.wixsite.com/biloximagician" You should find 4 interesting videos there. louis zocchi

As a sole proprietor in a small business, I know that social media is important for reaching out to potential clients, but the number of choices is a bit overwhelming. In recent months, I've spent some time researching the different social media platforms and how they differ. What I've learned is that Facebook is used by more people than any other platform by a huge margin – two to three times more people use Facebook than any other social media platform. So I've decided that adding new, helpful posts to my Facebook business page is a necessity. Beyond that, I've chosen a few other social media platforms that are used by the people who are most likely to hire me. In my case, those platforms are LinkedIn and Pinterest. I also post on Instagram and Twitter occasionally, but consider those extras. (I created an infographic that I've attached here that highlights what I learned about who uses which platforms.)

What I'm still trying to figure out is how to gain more followers. The use of hashtags like #socialmedia and #smallbiz seems to help, but perhaps it just takes time.

Sue Chehrenegar: I used to re-write articles that were in the celebrity section of Yahoo. That is considered to be a social media network. I discovered some things that I shared with executives at a few companies that I would like to be (or continue) being successful. I even slipped in mention of one company in something that I re-wrote.

They all have their different advantages and disadvantages. I find that if you want to use multiples then it is good to use a Social Media scheduling site such as Buffer or Hootsuite. Then you can plan things out in advance and they will post to all or whichever social media sites you want and when you want.

I have been involved in social media for a number of years and originally tested the waters with LinkedIn.

My experience with LinkedIn has been nothing short of fantastic and, a few month's ago, I was invited to join Alignable, which has also been a terrific experience.

However, just signing up with these social media platforms is a small step in the process.

It does take some time to build your presence and populate your profile with important information that other businesses may find of interest, whether you provide a product or service.

I check in to both Alignable and LinkedIn every day and it is always refreshing to find new contacts wanting to join me.

Fortunately, both platforms provide you with a "preview" of those people and company's who are requesting that you accept their request, so that you can see if there is a fit.

As for the question, what is my favorite social media platform, I enjoy working with both Alignable and LinkedIn.

Most important: If someone follows a link to your site, make sure the subject of that link matches the subject of the web page they land on. Don't make them search around your website trying to find the reason they clicked on your link. Otherwise, they will leave your site irritated. Jim
