It is important to note that attracting new customers is not always the goal.  But to attract NEW & IDEAL customers.  A client is specific to your brand & offerings.  Word of mouth is absolutely the best thing for me in a small town.  Other ways I attract new clients include web marketing, pairing up with other local businesses that I support and basic friendly conversation.  Ways I've attracted clients unintentionally in the past is by the volunteer work I do.  Offering your services for free to better a community situation (pet adoption & child loss are my big passions!) not only raise awareness about your business (maybe they hadn't seen your work before, but see your photos on a shelters website) but also promote what you're compassionate for.
