Out of curiosity, how many of my local small business friends have Wordpress websites or use Wordpress for their blog? Thanks in advance!

My website is. It is not a perfect platform as far as graphics and razzle dazzle go, BUT the ease of updating it in plain text and not having to learn code out ways the negatives in my opinion. You get better on it with practice.
We use it and in the last 2+ years the vast majority of the new sites we have built are on wordpress. It really is much easier for our clients to update a wordpress site on their own which gives them control and confidence to keep their content fresh (win-win for everyone). Just don't go too crazy with the plug-ins! (or be prepared to stay on top of them and their updates!)
I DO! I have been building and marketing websites for 20 years. I have seen a lot of trends come and go - but I love wordpress - and I really think it's here to stay. I build all my websites on Wordpress now. I have made it very Google friendly, built my own sales and client tracking tool, and email newsletter system with all my contacts stored in 1 place. If you ever wanted some guidance on it - I'd love to help - no strings attached.
I use WP exclusively and can't recommend it enough. It's infinitely flexible, cost-effective, easy to maintain and modify, and if built right, extremely secure, durable, and high-performing. We have sites that we built 7 years ago, and—while our work has obviously changed and design + technology have changed tremendously—they still look great and perform every bit as good as they did when we first built them. Like anything else, however, a WP site has to be well-thought-out and well-executed. And the more complex it needs to be and the more it needs to do, the more true that becomes.
