As I publisher in the print media sector, I believe print products, particularly magazines, are still the most trusted method of advertising. A recent survey by www.marketingsherpa.com listed magazines as the most trusted by consumers (80%). But, I would encourage any business to use multiple media to brand their business - print, radio, TV, and online. All within a reasonable budget.
Face to face is, and will always be, the best way to develop solid business and personal relationships. I understand the constant need to save time now and in the future, but as an older adult I believe digital only contact does not build trust, which is paramount.

Take the high road and politely explain what is involved in your work and what your rate will be. Ask them if they would be happy if their product or service was so undervalued and how they might respond?

As many have commented already, Customer Service is so important. But, you can not and should not undervalue your service with a lower price. When you offer customers great service, they will come back again and again if the price is fair. As someone else mentioned, your price could be higher...
