He basically explained to pay myself, or an employee X dollars per hour, you need to invoice at least four times that amount. If you are a one person operation, you are; the worker, sales person, bookkeeper, janitor, production manager. Add to that, equipment and all the overhead costs of your location and vehicle costs. As for the job brokers, they seem to want to make money at our expense.

Keeping customers is heavily dependent on relationships. My business works with companies that need photography for their advertising. I usually can keep a customer, until my contact leaves. Being a commercial photographer, quality comes first for most of my customers and price determines if we do the shoot, or not. (more) Being a commercial photographer, quality comes first for most of my customers and price determines if we do the shoot, or not.

When I was traveling more often, I used the ASMP site, however, back in April of this year I could not find any on their site. For local shoots I found some very good assistants through a photography school. Being a photographer, most of my work comes from referrals. When I look for a photo assistant, or photographer, I first go to people that I know to recommend someone. Second approach would be the ASMP web site which I have used when I needed a photographer in an other state. (more) Being a photographer, most of my work comes from referrals. I agree with Larry's comment. It comes down to you the photographer and your ability to capture what makes that person unique. (more) I agree with Larry's comment. It comes down to you the photographer and your ability to capture what makes that person unique.

You can also join groups that are potential customers. I shoot interiors, so belonging to a group that is attended by interior designers is a perfect fit. In the end, it's all about relationships. People like to work with people they like. Hope this helps, Dan
